Community Inclusion & Participation

Having a disability can lead to isolation for People with a disability. Strong community connections can bring meaning and belonging. Empowered Futures is committed to providing strong connections to the community for people with disabilities. We are committed to discovering meaningful and fulfilling activities that enhance the interests of those we are supporting. We will work with you to design a comprehensive program of support that flows from the person’s interests and aligns with their abilities.

Examples of activities that people we support are currently engaged in:

  • Sailability
  • City Hall concerts
  • Surfing on the Gold Coast
  • Swimming at local pools
  • Bowling
  • Friday night outings to local pubs & clubs
  • Attending movies and musicals
  • Day trips to places of interest or events

We also fully support our SIL Participants attending separate day programs or making alternative arrangements for accessing the community, if they choose to do so. It was originally our preference not to offer 24/7 supports, allowing opportunity for at least one other provider to be involved through the delivery of core supports. We believe this brings additional safeguards for the person we are supporting as well as ensuring greater accountability for both providers. But at the end of the day, we are responsive to the needs and preferences of those who we support, and if you wish to access 24/7 supports from Empowered Futures, we would be thrilled to accommodate this.
